Masjid Toronto was established in 2002 by the Muslim Association of Canada, a Canadian charitable organization dedicated to the promotion of Islam.
The Masjid enjoys a unique position within the Muslim community because of its central location in the business and financial district.
All major amenities can be found within walking distance of the mosque - Toronto City Hall, the famous Eaton Centre, Sick Kids and Toronto General Hospital, Queens Park (provincial legislature) and Toronto's financial district.
The Masjid is also home to Toronto's most multicultural mix- a unique blend of all races and nationalities, praying under one roof. Here, everyone forgets their ethnicity and ethnic loyalties
and rub shoulders with Muslims from many different countries and cultures.
The Friday Khutbah at Masjid Toronto is also unique. A tradition has been established to deliver sermons that are not only emotionally motivating and spiritually fulfilling, but are also grounded in relevance and contemporary thought.
A roster of Khateebs have been established, and one can expect to listen to a variety of subjects and perspectives.
To establish a permanent Islamic presence in downtown Toronto with a mosque and facilities to meet the religious, social and intellectual needs of Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
Masjid Toronto is the culmination of more than 10 years of dreaming of a permanent facility in the heart of downtown Toronto that will serve Muslims who live and work in the downtown core. After a decade of moving from place to place, we are now grateful to Allah (SWT) that we have a place of our own, a House of Allah in the heart of this cosmopolitan city.
Masjid Toronto is now established after a long period of search and negotiations with the Vendor. The terms of the purchase, in our estimation, are very reasonable, given the excellent condition of the building, its size and its prime location.

Part of the building sits on a piece of land that is leased. As part of the terms of purchase, Masjid Toronto will assume this lease at approximately $50,000 annually until the lease expires in 2014. Two years prior to the lease expiration, Masjid Toronto will have the option to complete the land purchase.
Update: Alhamdulillah, Masjid Toronto has now purchased the land previously leased for $875,000.00. An initial amount of $210,000.00 was made in September 2004, with the remainder due in amounts of $11,000.00 monthly starting January 2005 until September 2009.
